This year’s race (2009 Gold Rush Mother Lode) will have live coverage via TrackMe360’s Adventure Zone (powered by Untamed Adventure). Adventure Zone is the place where individuals, groups and event organizers publish their adventures live, complete with GPS tracking maps, pictures, news blog, trail mail, and more.
Each team is equipped with a GPS tracking beacon from TrackMe360. Every 10-30 minutes (depending on terrain conditions), the beacon reports the team’s location to the web site, and the continuously updated leaderboard gives viewers up-to-the-minute status on the race field. The teams competing are:

GPS Race #4: Silver Lake

Our fourth TrackMe360 Training Race takes place in the Mokelumne Wilderness and El Dorado National Forest, near Silver Lake, off Hwy 88 just West of Kirkwood. Three courses of varying degrees of challenge (Short, Medium, and Long) have been designed to showcase the best the area has to offer, with moderate vertical gain, a lot of trail choices, and fairly ”runnable” cross country terrain. The terrain here is much more open and runnable than both 100 Lakes and Desolation. We are extremely excited about this venue – it will definitely put a smile on your face. The courses takes you through coniferous forest lands, through sparsely tree covered granite slab slopes and also along spectacular ridge lines with weird volcanic features and volcanic gravel. The area is somewhat dry at this time of year, and a few lakes is the only replenishment option, and treating the water essential. Hunting season starts September 26th, so if you go out after that time, wear something really bright!

South and East of Silver Lake, which is located along Hwy 88, just West of Kirkwood, CA

***Track Leo LIVE at TrackMe360’s Adventure Zone starting September 1st, 2009***

Hello,
My name is Leo (Lee) Kelly. I am a veteran from the 1st Gulf war with some disabilities from a M.V.A. that happened in September 2004. For exercise, weather permitting, I am able to ride a recumbent trike. Starting September 1, 2009, I plan to take a special journey for a special cause that is extremely close to my heart.

Recently I was approached by staff members at Wade Park VA, and asked if I received support from the VA would I consider making this a regional function? So after talking to my sponsors and getting some feedback on the issue. I’ve decided to make this a showcase of our great state and keep it regional, Instead of riding to Dallas, Texas this time.
So the route has changed but, not the mission. My journey will be by recumbent trike from Cleveland, Ohio to other VA medical Centers across the great state of Ohio . This journey will be about 900 miles in about 21 days. I am riding to raise funds and awareness for our returning disabled soldiers and their families. In doing so, I hope to encourage any veteran with a disability to set their goals higher, and they will accomplish it one way or another.
